Bost was born in Kannapolis NC, graduating from JW Cannon High School in 1944. He spent afternoons and all day on Saturdays earning enough money to take flying lesson. He got his license at age 16. During WWII, he was involved with the US Army Air Corps and the Chemical Warfare School. Bost completed his architectural degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Southern Polytechnic State University in March 1950, at which time he joined Odell Associates in Charlotte NC as the sixth employee. He stayed for 45 years, plus five as a consultant, and served as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and member of the Board of Directors.
