ERIN ELIZABETH STERLING LEWIS, FAIA (1978-)

Lewis is a native of Illinois and grew up in Yazoo City MS. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2002 with a BA in Architecture and worked for Frank Harmon through 2010 when she and Matt Griffith started their own firm in situ studio.

She was President of AIANC in 2017, won the AIA National Young Architects Award in 2018, and won the AIANC Deitrick Medal in 2019.

MATTHEW (MATT) HENNING GRIFFITH, AIA (1974-)

Griffith is a 1996 graduate of Davidson College in Math and a 2002 graduate of the NCSU College of Design.  (MA Architecture), where he was awarded the Kamphoefner Fellowship, the Dean’s Award for outstanding service, the Faculty Design Award, and the AIA School Medal. He worked for Marlon Blackwell in Arkansas (2002-2006) and Frank Harmon in Raleigh (2006-2010) before founding in situ studio in 2010 with Harmon colleague Erin Sterling Lewis. He teaches at NC State and lives in a midcentury house designed by Lewis Polier.

2012 - The Adam Chasen and Auditi Hussein House, aka the $150K House, 827 East Hargett Street, Raleigh. The original house, bottom photo, was destroyed after being damaged in a storm. 1450sf.  Built by Axiom Green Build. Won 2nd place in the juried 2013 Matsumoto Prize. Won 2nd place in the People's Choice category in the 2013 Matsumoto Prize. Griffith designed an accessory building in the backyard in 2016, bottom photo.
