EDWIN FREELAND (ABIE) HARRIS JR., FAIA (1934-)

Wayne Taylor, a long time and well-loved professor at NC State’s College of Design, died in May 2024. His professional legacy includes hundreds of students he taught, many beautiful hard-edge paintings, and an incredible house in Raleigh’s Forest Park. This house, one of the neighborhood’s largest and oldest, was completely transformed in its interior by Wayne’s design and craftsmanship. Wayne did the entirety of the transformation working from his basement studio which was a monument of organization, filled with power tools, reading and reference materials and his painting supplies. Wayne was a great personal friend and we lived together when we were in the Design School in the fifties, worked together for Horacio Caminos and collaborated on many projects. I hope his amazing work on the house can be saved.  Here are the photographs I took late in May 2024. Click on in image to zoom in. -- Edwin F. “Abie” Harris, Jr., FAIA
